I did it! I turned in my license paperwork to register Uprooted Farmgirl as an actual florist. Big day for me yesterday. This week has been a little emotional and on Monday I was throwing in the towel because I thought my kids need mom right now, not someone out chasing dreams. But I pushed through and after lots of doubting, tears, and my husband thinking I’m crazy we decided they need me chasing dreams as much as I need to be.
This adventure and dream of opening a flower farm is something I have been thinking about for a couple years. I am a huge dreamer yet never follow through with anything. Like NOTHING… This time is turning out to be different. I’m content with not having it now. If that makes any since? I’m a “if I can’t have it now my attention turns to the next thing.” This only takes about a day or two.
The holidays are coming and I have started ordering and setting up shop to make and sell holiday wreaths. What!? This is something I have never actually done and decided this year why not! Sounds so small, but it’s an amazing stepping stone for me. I’m following through and doing something for my business right in this moment and taking advantage of what I can without quitting my day job. It just feels different. I know exactly what I want out of this business and I’m figuring out how to get it. It’s kind of weird. I’m telling you if I can do this anyone can! I’m the queen at excuses…
U-Cut Flower Farm – We are currently in the process of purchasing the 2.5 acres we live on to make this a reality
Florist – License in the system. Writing out my business plan. Just signed up for the Floret Online Workshop to get as much guidance as possible! (Not something we could necessarily afford but we both thought it was worth it)
Holiday Wreaths & Garlands – I have my first show the weekend of the 19th in November, it’s a perfect place to get my feet wet with selling my stuff. After the show we set up the Christmas Tree lot and the rest will be sold there, and maybe online? Next year we shoot for bigger if all goes well.
Wedding & Event Rentals – This is my big guy! Eventually this is what the business will be all about. Still figuring out my niche in this industry and what all we will offer, but I see it all tied together with the flowers and where we live. It’s a perfect marriage and hopefully will be up and running by June of 2022.
I’m still in the planning and figuring it all out. Looking for grants and how to actually get it up and running. The wreaths are my first product I will actually be selling under the name Uprooted Farmgirl, and I’m so excited!
